Park Joon-soon (19), one of the candidates for this year's KBO League Rookie of the Year, will head to Australia, where the Doosan Bears' first-team spring camp will be held.메이저사이트
Doosan officially announced on the 24th that it will depart for Sydney, Australia, the first training site, through Incheon International Airport.
A total of 57 players are in the camp, including 13 coaching staff including coach Lee Seung-yeop and 44 players. Twenty-two pitchers, four catchers, nine infielders and nine outfielders are participating, and first-round infielder Park Joon-soon and third-round pitcher Hong Min-gyu are listed among rookies.
The name that stands out the most is Park Joon-soon. A native of Deoksu High School, Park was selected as the first fielder at the 2025 KBO Rookie Draft. As a junior, he played in 34 games last year, posting a batting average of 0.442 (50 hits in 113 times at bat), five homers, 33 RBIs, 49 runs, 22 steals, 37 walks, seven strikeouts, and a on-base percentage of 0.681 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) of 1.250.
In November last year, he received the star award in the baseball category at the "2024 Futures Star Awards," which are given to the best amateur players. At the time, the selection committee said, "He showed above-average skills in ball, defense, and state. He boasts contact capabilities, consistent defense, and flagship skill that enable him to steal bases. He is not an amateur player but has the ability to cope with breaking balls. He also has good reaction to and push fastballs. He has excellent pioneering skills, and I think he will be well-versed in professional baseball as well. He has the batting and defense capability of Ahn Chi-hong (Hanwha) type," the selection committee said.
This year, Doosan is at a crossroads where third baseman Huh Kyung-min (35) leaves for KT Wiz as an FA, and shortstop Huh Kyung-min (40) announces his retirement and has to rebuild infield. Kang Seung-ho (31) is likely to take over the third base, but the positions of second and shortstop have entered an infinite competition.
While young players are expected to have many opportunities, Park Joon-soon has also expressed his desire to become a starting player and challenge for the Rookie of the Year award. In an interview with reporters after the Star Awards ceremony, he said, "I feel good because competing itself means that you have a lot of expectations for me," adding, "I don't have much pressure on defense. My strength is that I can handle all the hits stably. Also, I am most confident in my contact ability that is not pushed by any ball."
"Once we go to the first-team camp, our goal is to be in the exhibition game entry and then in the opening entry," he said. "We are aiming high for the best rookie award."
Meanwhile, Doosan's first training camp will run from January 26 to February 16. The first training camp will focus on boosting its condition at Blacktown Ballpark in Sydney, Australia.
The team will return to Korea on Feb. 16, take a day off, and then leave for Miyazaki, Japan, the second training site, from Feb. 18. The team is planning to play seven games, including six games with a Japanese professional baseball team and one game with the Lotte Giants of the KBO League, in the second training camp. The team will return to Korea on March 4 after completing all of its schedules.
